Elbrus

Mount Elbrus is the highest in the Caucasus and in Europe, and it is the tenth most prominent in the world.

It is in fact a dormant volcano, which is approximately 2000 years old and has two peaks of 5642 m and 5621 m. The oriental peak was first ascended in 1821 by a Russian expedition, while the occidental peak was conquered by a British expedition in 1849.

Snow covers 138 km2 forming almost 100 glaciers, some of which are 400 meters deep. Recently the glaciers have been loosing its ice, in some places they are up to 500 meters shorter than they were at the time of the first studies in the early 1930s.

The classical route (Southern side) is not that difficult but long, and assumes 2000m ascent from the Botchki refuge. The other aspect that makes it challenging is the changing weather and strong wind.

We offer different routes with flexible dates.
